Salt and Sweet

August 19, 2019

"Go home and tell what God has done for you." So the man left and kept proclaiming throughout the whole city how much Jesus had done for him. -Luke 8:39

He said we had his favor
in the depth of summer,
the layers
of darks and lights
melted into one.

He said the victory
would be won
in the different flavors
celebrated by the tongue.

He said
let go of speed
leave Esau ways behind.
move along slowly
at the pace
of the droves
and that of the children
before you.

savor the salt
from the tears collected
lap up the sweetness
of My grace
anoint My feet
with paint.
let the tears
held back
lay tracks
in the sand
to guide
your people.

He said go home to
a spirit of play
but dig deep
into layers of grace.

we paused and played,
the Spirit and I.
when the words came,
i recorded them.
when He gave images,
i painted them
on boards.

He said
let the pain,
the stains,
the shame
drip into the giving
of thanks.

we formed a pool
of wooden planks
covered them with paint
as we waited
for the dog days
of summer
to pass over
into harvest time.
